Jade is an ornamental stone. Among the earliest known jade artifacts excavated from prehistoric sites are simple ornaments with bead, button, and tubular shapes. As metal-working technologies became available, the beauty of jade made it valuable for ornaments and decorative objects. The use of jade and other greenstone was a long-term tradition in Korea.
Jain Temple at Kolanpak, Andhra Pradesh (India), has a 2,000-year-old Jain temple of Mahavira which is a notable place of worship for Jains in the country. The temple has more than 5 ft high image of Mahavira, carved entirely out of jade (Largest single Jade rock sculpture in the world).
